(The Toronto Star) Dr. Ronald Eric Groshaw passed away on July 21, 2025, at Etobicoke General Hospital, at the age of 95. He was predeceased by his son, George Bain (2003). Beloved husband to Barbara Jean for 65 years. Father to Eric (Tracie). Grandfather to Christopher (Hilary); greatgrandfather to Samuel; and grandfather to Philip (Kaitlin). Ron grew up on the family farm near Moorefield, Ontario.
While attending the University of Western Ontario, hostilities began in Korea. Ron enlisted in the R.C.A.F while continuing his studies for a doctorate in medicine. Ron served with the 408 Squadron in the Arctic at Resolute Bay. Upon completion of his tour of duty, he did post-graduate study in Ophthalmology. He opened a private practice in Weston, Ontario. Ron was appointed to the teaching staff at University of Toronto. He served as Chief Ophthalmologist at Etobicoke General Hospital and served on staff at St. John’s, West Park and Sunnybrook Hospital.
Ron joined the Masonic community in 1959 in Conestogo Lodge No. 295, Drayton. TPGM Toronto Grand Lodge of Perfection Valley of Toronto 1974 – ’75, and coroneted 33° HIG 1976. Ron was Past Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons of Canada in the province of Ontario in 1983, but, prior, was Grand Senior Warden 1976-77. He was a PM of The Heritage Lodge No. 730 GRC (1981), and laid the cornerstone at the lodge in Black Creek (1983) and enjoyed its rededication 40 years later in 2023. Ron was also a member of Rameses Shrine #33 and was the Imperial Potentate of the Temple of Rameses in 1991, as well as AAONMS Royal Order of Jesters, Royal Order of Scotland, member of Ontario College SRIC (1997), Honorary member of Ontario College No. 87 (SRIA) and Honorary member of Georgina Lodge No. 343.
The Ronald E. Groshaw Masonic Centre was dedicated to honour his name and legacy in Brampton, 2024.
Recreationally, Ron enjoyed cottage life with his family. His hobbies included sailing, golf and skiing. In his later years, Ron enjoyed being a “tree surgeon” at the lake, and he was voracious reader and had a passion for all types of literature.
A private family interment will take place at Bethesda Cemetery, Moorefield. A celebration of life will take place at a later date.
